This piece was inspired by an outdoor Movie Night in Ventura, CA.
I recreated what I saw that night as if I had been out on the town during Dia de Los Muertos. Reintroducing aspects of my background into a space that made me feel like an outsider.
Being new to a city is difficult -- not knowing anyone, not understanding the culture or dynamic of the area. I continued to paint scenes from around the city, as a way to integrate myself in spirit.
"Escucha" or in English, "listen", is a reminder for me to be aware that I'm never alone. My loved ones are always with me.
